The Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority is a statutory authority governed by a Board of Directors and operates under the Great Ocean Road and Environs Protection Act 2020.

The current Board was appointed by the Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change in November 2020 for a term of four years.

Our Board includes a nominee of each recognised Traditional Owner group in the region, the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation and the Eastern Maar Aboriginal Corporation.

All Board members have strong links to local community groups and organisations along the Great Ocean Road and include individuals with substantial experience in marine and coastal environmental conservation, public administration and governance, tourism, and planning.

Our Board is committed to best practice governance and values open and accountable communication with the Authority’s stakeholders. Following each of our six annual Board meetings, a Board Communiqué is issued to provide an overview of the current issues and challenges considered by the Board during that meeting.

STATEMENT OF EXPECTATIONS

To help achieve the management reforms outlined in the Great Ocean Road Action Plan, this Statement of Expectations (SOE) outlines the Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Lily D’Ambrosio’s expectation that the Authority focuses on six priority areas in the performance of its functions:

1. Cultural competency and self-determination

2. Transformation and transition of the Authority to its end state

3. Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks protection

4. Community engagement

5. Visitor experience

6. Financial sustainability.
