Authority staff combine to ‘Purge the Spurge’

It took a full team effort to tackle an invasive weed that is threatening the local coastal environment. 

Authority staff from across the organisation came together on Wednesday to ‘Purge the Spurge’ along Petticoat Creek. 

A pale green shrub that grows up to 70cm tall, Sea Spurge spreads quickly and can take over native vegetation, causing issues with beach and dune systems.  

The conservation event formed part of our celebrations for Landcare Week, which recognises Australians who are actively restoring, enhancing and protecting the natural environment. 

We implement a strict weed control program to protect, maintain and enhance all public land we manage, from Torquay through to Warrnambool.
