Beach in Jan Juc Reopens Following Geotechnical Assessment

The Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority has reopened the section of beach to the south-west of Jan Juc Beach, extending between Bird Rock and Sparrows.
The beach was temporarily closed in February 2024 after reports of tension cracks in the cliff tops raised concerns for public safety.
Geotechnical consultants have conducted thorough assessments, confirming that the observed tension cracks are confined to the top layer of the cliffs. Consequently, they pose no increased risk to the safety of beachgoers or users of the Surf Coast Walk (Bells Track).
The Authority has removed all signage related to the temporary closure and is collaborating with geotechnical engineers to enhance its monitoring protocols for future safety evaluations.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to report any new cracks, cliff falls, or changes to cliffs along the coastline to the coastal reserves team via info@greatoceanroadauthority.vic.gov.au to ensure prompt implementation of appropriate risk management measures.

- Stay on established tracks at all times.
- Adhere to signage and follow official guidance.

The permanent closure of the beach at Grinders/Demons Bluff in Anglesea, due to the significant risk of cliff falls, remains in effect.
