Come and try beach mobility equipment
Published on 14 November 2024
A series of events will be held this spring and summer to help our community and visitors discover and try out a range of beach mobility equipment along the Great Ocean Road coast.
We are proud to offer a range of accessible equipment including hoists, beach wheelchairs, parking and beach matting so that people of all abilities can enjoy accessible beaches from Torquay to Port Campbell.
Some equipment and facilities are currently available at Fishermans Beach in Torquay, Anglesea Riverbank, Point Roadknight, Lorne Beach, Apollo Bay and Port Campbell.
Last Summer, we engaged with the community about improving beach accessibility in Anglesea. We heard that you wanted an improved booking system and to be able to trial the equipment available along the coast.
We are excited to release a new and improved online booking system for this Summer. You can check out the new booking system here.
We will participate in a variety of activities this summer to promote the use of beach mobility equipment. These include:
Surf Coast All Abilities Community Day:
We will have a stall at the Surf Coast All Abilities Community Day, hosted by Victoria Police. Chat to us about accessible beaches and beach mobility equipment along the coast!
When: 10am to 1pm Sunday 24 November
Where: Elephant Walk, Torquay
Roll with the Tides:
Accessible Beaches Twilight Event: We are partnering with local agencies to run a twilight come and try event at the Anglesea Riverbank this summer to highlight accessible parking, changing places facility, riverside access matting and beach mobility equipment. There will be a sausage sizzle at 3:30pm too!

Acting Director Environment and Coastal Operations Leia Howes said:
"We're proud to deliver the Accessible Beach program, which is all about creating a more inclusive coastline.
To make things even easier this summer, we’re launching a new, streamlined and improved booking system for accessible beach equipment.
We are looking at holding more come and try events at other locations in the future.
We invite both locals and visitors to join us, explore the coast, and discover how and where to access the beautiful beaches along the Great Ocean Road.”
