We have launched a second round of community engagement to help shape the future of the mixed-use site above the Torquay Angling Club at Fishermans Beach.

For the past seven years, a portion of this site has been licensed to a commercial food and beverage operator as part of a trial arrangement, while still allowing for community access to the beach viewing platform overlooking over the magnificent Fishermans beach.

In August, we initiated the first round of public engagement, which drew significant interest. The Have Your Say web page received 615 visits, with 170 survey responses submitted. Additionally, 92 community members attended in-person drop-in sessions to share their views.

Public feedback revealed the mixed-use site is highly valued by the community, with 98% of respondents rating it as somewhat to very important. There was also strong support for the continuation of commercial offerings at the site.

This input has played a key role in shaping draft concepts for the site's future use. These include a rooftop food and beverage area as well as maintaining public access.

We are now seeking further public feedback on these draft concepts from Tuesday, 15 October until midnight on Tuesday 5 November .

Alongside an online survey, community information sessions will be held at the following locations:

  • 6:30am to 9am on Friday 25 at the Salty Dog Cafe

  • 5pm to 7pm on Saturday 26 October 2024 at Bomboras Beach Bar

Quotes attributable to Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority Acting Director Infrastructure and Planning Shane Blacket:

“Feedback shows just how much the community values Fishos, with strong support for maintaining both community spaces and hospitality offerings at the site.

Fishos is incredibly popular, whether it’s for catching up with friends or family, taking part in a local parkrun, or simply enjoying the great views.

A key theme in the recent feedback was the importance of preserving the open-air, casual, surf-town vibe, as well as the stunning views of the beach.

We’ve now released draft concepts for the mixed-use site, and we encourage everyone to take a look and have their say.”
