Planning Repairs Following Storm Damage at Torquay Surf Beach
Published on 13 November 2024
Storm damage has left the Torquay Surf Beach seawall, Torquay SLSC concourse and ramp at high risk, with serious structural damage prompting closures and immediate safety measures.
We've engaged a specialised engineering consultancy with expertise in marine structures and environmental conditions to assess the damage and determine remediation options.
Their inspections are scheduled to begin late next week, aligned with the lowest daytime tides to ensure the safest and most thorough evaluation possible.
Our top priority is public safety as we proceed with an in-depth engineering review and options analysis. We’re focused on urgent and long-term options to make the area safe and prevent further deterioration.
We’re working closely with the Department of Energy, Environment, and Climate Action (DEECA) to evaluate the full extent of the damage and identify the most effective remedial strategies.
Clear signage and hazard bunting are in place to establish safe boundaries around the damaged sections of the seawall and ramp. We strongly urge all beachgoers to observe safety signage and keep clear of the marked exclusion zone.
Foreshore Rangers are patrolling the closed area twice daily, closely monitoring conditions for any further changes.

“With warmer weather drawing more visitors to Torquay Surf Beach this weekend, public safety must come first.”
“Our team is hard at work exploring options with structural engineers and DEECA, but in the meantime, we need everyone’s help to keep the beach safe.”
“We urge everyone to respect the safety signage and stay well clear of the marked exclusion zones.”
