Site-clearing works begin at Apollo Bay Recreation Reserve
Published on 15 July 2024
Major site clearing, paving the way for increased camping opportunities this summer, began today at Apollo Bay Recreation Reserve.
The works are part of the Camping Uplift project, which is backed by funding from the Victorian Government and is being delivered by the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority.
The weekday works will not limit access to the sports and recreation facilities in the reserve.
However, temporary fencing will section off the immediate works area, as the contractor moves throughout the accommodation precinct to demolish and remove abandoned vans and annexes.
The clean-up of the site is in line with the 10-year Masterplan adopted for the Apollo Bay Recreation Reserve in October 2023. It is expected to be completed in three weeks.
The clean-up will allow the reserve to re-open later this year, with more public camping opportunities on offer for casual visitors.
Construction on the Camping Uplift initiative is expected to begin in 2025, following the peak visitor period.
