Taylor Park Reserve temporary closure
Published on 23 May 2023
We are taking steps to ensure your safety and enjoyment of Taylor Park Reserve.
Based on expert advice from independent arborists, 58 trees have been identified as posing a high risk of falling or dropping branches:
· Works are already complete on 21 trees
· Of the remaining 37 high risk trees, 15 of them require removal.
· Habitat pruning to conserve and improve the health of other trees will also take place during this time.
· The high risk trees are scattered across the reserve and need to be managed as soon as possible.
· Nearly 97% of the trees affected are not native to Victoria.
From Wednesday May 24 some sections of the reserve will be temporarily closed, with works starting on Monday May 29.
The map of the closed areas is shown in yellow and the open tracks are marked in green. Signs and bunting will be installed to mark the boundaries so please respect these closures and do not enter the yellow areas.
We’re working with the Friends of Taylor Park group to find ways to repurpose the timber for new purposes, such as habitat logs, artwork, free mulch and outdoor furniture.
We’ll investigate closing some informal paths through conservation zones to protect the native plants and animals that live there. We will also plant more new trees than we remove.
We understand this may cause some disappointment for some of you who love to visit Taylor Park Reserve. We appreciate your cooperation as we work to make the reserve safer and more enjoyable for everyone.
We’ll keep you updated on our progress and informed when the reserve is fully open again. For any questions, feel free to contact us at info@greatoceanroadauthority.vic.gov.au
